Where art, body, and story meet in movement.

I have danced my whole life! As a teenager, traditional folk dances inspired me filling me with a sense of connection to others and the joy of moving to music that took me away from the tyranny my busy thinking brain and into the feeling my my body in movement.
I danced with healers in Haiti, and in the mountains of North Carolina, and later on the California Coast. I studied Tai Chi, Chi Gung, and other Eastern Movement skills at Sarah Lawrence College.
It was at the Tamalpa Institute, inspired by the teaching of Anna and Daria Halprin, that I made the deep connection between my own personal body mythology and the transformative potential of creative expression.
Training to become a Feldenkrais@ Practitioner enhanced my knowledge of the importance of integrated and efficient movement and how gravity can be either an obstacle or a resource for structural well being.
Moving with self-awareness connects us more deeply to our sense of ourselves in the world.
In class, we engage in the exploration of movement in a technical and structured lesson. Then, movement metaphors and themes such as "rising and falling," "letting go and moving forward," and "masking and unmasking" will be explored.
There will be an opportunity to reflect on and express the images or feelings that arise in writing or drawing and the possibility to dance those images, either alone, or with the support of the group.

This is a drawing I made after a movement exploration done in a guided Feldenkrais lesson taught by Anastasi Siotas, a Feldenkrais Trainer based in New York
I had been in a car accident and my mobility was impaired. Through his guidance, I was able to regain mobility and fluidity in my lower back and pelvis.
I explored the sensations of openness and fluidity and imagined myself a starfish floating in water. I drew this image. Then I danced my drawing!

My classes are for EVERY ONE. You don't need any prior dance experience. The movement vocabulary is accessible, the heated floor and the environment are nurturing, and the music and time given for reflective writing may take you to places you have not imagined.
There are no mirrors here. This is not dance for others, but rather to nurture your self at all levels.
If you need the support of a chair and want to move from a seated position, that is possible.
